CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. - In what has become a yearly tradition, local area bands will come together in the Crown Room for a free show celebrating the music of the Band.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1976, the Band invited a star studded group of musicians and friends to Winterland in San Francisco. This would be the last performance of the legendary group and the event would be captured by famed movie director Martin Scorsese as "The Last Waltz." Joining the Band that night were Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Hawkins, Ronnie Wood and Bob Dylan. The Last Waltz would signal an end to original group's illustrious career.
On Saturday, Nov. 24 the Crystal Bay Casino will host several of the finest bands from Northern Nevada including Jelly Bread, Hellbound Glory and the Casual Dogs. The evening will feature music originally recorded by the Band or songs played on that November night 34 years ago.
Each group will take on several of the classic songs in the Crown Room starting at 9 p.m. Several of the Crown Room musicians are expected to join in for a final Locals Last Waltz jam to conclude the evening and celebrate that historic night 36 years ago. There will be an after-party in the Red Room following the show with the Mark Sexton Band.
