'Proxy' author to speak at college

Author Jason Mallory will hold a speaking and signing event Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The event will promote his new science fiction novella, "Proxy." His talk will begin at noon, followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing at the Campus Barnes and Noble bookstore.

In "Proxy" the use of robotics as a replacement for human labor has reduced the once working-class people to a state of unemployable poverty, resulting in a near collapse of the world's capitalist economies, according to a press release. The United Nations struggles to maintain a moral global order as international business organization, Circos, uses control over labor robots and its sovereign financial might to manipulate power from impoverished governments. While the United States teeters on the brink of civil war, two presidential candidates of opposing ideologies campaign for different solutions to the nation's problems, and the world watches as its fate is decided.

"Proxy" suggests a responsible way of assimilating robotics into the labor-force that would reduce the effects of unemployment, while maintaining democracy and the consumer cycle.

Mallory has been invited to give a TEDx South Lake Tahoe "Talk" on the subject, tentatively planned for Spring of 2013, and is currently kicking off a book tour of the Western United States expected to continue for the next six months.
