Project Graduation 2013 raffle drawing to be held Nov. 30

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Truckee High School 2013 Project Graduation is holding a fundraising raffle in support of a safe, supervised, and sober graduation night. The prize, a 51-inch Samsung Flat Screen HDTV, was generously donated by Charlie and Nancy Riley, owners of the Truckee Sears Hometown Store. The raffle drawing will be held at the Truckee Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, scheduled for Nov. 30 at the train station. "Charlie and Nancy have donated the Raffle prize four years in a row," said Joanna McMullen, Project Graduation's Raffle committee chair. "Their support has been a big part of Project Graduation's success."Project Graduation was instituted at Truckee High School more than 20 years ago in an effort to discourage hazardous and harmful activities often associated with high school graduation celebrations. We promote the message that celebrating without alcohol and drugs is the right choice, a fun choice, and a safe choice. The Project Graduation celebration starts a few hours after the formal graduation ceremony. Participating graduates are whisked away to a surprise destination. The location, entertainment, food, and transportation are all provided to give graduating seniors a chance to celebrate together. Each participant signs a commitment contract promising to remain alcohol and drug free for the entire event. Parents of the senior class do all the fundraising and organizing. Parents of the junior class participate as chaperones for the event. The goal of the Project Graduation 2013 is to make this evening affordable and available to all graduating seniors. Our main fundraising event is the Raffle, along with the Senior Fashion Show & Silent Auction held in the spring. "We are very grateful to Charlie and Nancy Riley for their grand prize donation," said Raffle committee member Dianne Kamenetsky. "The Truckee Hometown Sears Store has been very supportive of Project Graduation."Raffle tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the Truckee Sears Hometown Store, Renewal Dermatology and Laser, Glow Salon, Dickson Realty, and at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, while supplies last. The tree lighting ceremony is always a great time, and one lucky winner will be walking away with a new HDTV. Ticket holders need not be present to win.For more information call 775-815-0324 or email m.corley@sbcglobal.net.
