Businesses light up for holiday event

Businesses along Highway 50 got in the holiday spirit over Thanksgiving weekend for the city's "Light Up South Lake Tahoe" event.

Multiple businesses decorated their store fronts and turned on lights as the South Lake tahoe Fire Department firetruck and Streets Department snow plow led the procession from Stateline to the "Y." The festivities concluded with the annual tree lighting, a visit from Santa and hot cocoa and cookies.

"We are very pleased with the turnout of tonight's event with at least 150 people coming out to watch the tree lighting and we look forward to next year's event being even bigger and better," Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis stated in a press release.

While an official contest was not planned, South Tahoe Standup Paddle, located at 3115 Harrison Ave., did an outstanding job of decorating their storefront and are awarded the title of "Best Participation and Most Enthusiastic" by city staff.

Plans are underway to increase the size of this event for next year. Next year's "Light up South Lake Tahoe" will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m.
