Prescribed fire operations begin today on Tahoe's East Shore

LAKE TAHOE - U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will conduct prescribed fire operations in a pair off locations off Lake Tahoe's East Shore, officials said.

Crews expect to burn one acre, conditions permitting, in the Elks Point Road area of Roundhill, according to a USFS press release. In addition, operations will begin Tuesday above Highway 28 near Skunk Harbor, where crews expect to burn four acres, conditions permitting. Operations will continue as weather and conditions allow.

"Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from these areas," according to the press release. "The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed."
