There has been resistance to using the old rec center for performing arts. Probably because the view has been on a 5-star theater with all the bells and whistles.

Why not create something more in keeping with old Truckee? Do minor renovations to the old building and create a truly old time theater. The performing arts contingent could form a nonprofit and enroll the community in the process. Seems like it could be accomplished with volunteer work and donations along with some dollars.

Nevada City has a great old theater downtown, which I believe is operated by a nonprofit. I believe our great community would really get behind such a project.
