County implements new emergency notification system

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has put a new Emergency Notification System in place to alert county residents about public health and public safety emergencies such as wildfires, hazardous materials spills and urgent law enforcement operations, according to a Thursday statement.

The system uses the 911 database to call and deliver a recorded message to all land line phone numbers in specific areas of the county.

Residents may also receive notifications on a cell phone, Voice over IP phone or at an email address. Residents wishing to receive messages on these devices must register at:

The sheriff's office warns against using the system as the sole means to receive emergency information. In any emergency situation, reacting quickly and calmly is of utmost importance, according to the statement.
