Elks holds bball free throw contest

The Tahoe/Douglas Elks Lodge is sponsoring its annual Elks' Hoop Shoot, a national basketball free throw contest on Jan. 8 at CC Meneley Elementary School at 3:30 p.m. The contest is open to all boys and girls ages 8-13, living in Douglas County.

Each contestant will get 25 free throws. Children must wear tennis shoes and use provided basketballs. No registration is required.

Local winners will compete in the district finals in Carson City, Nev., on Jan. 26. State finals will take place in Hawthorne, Nev., on Feb. 2.

The names of the national winners will be inscribed on the Elks' national Hoop Shoot plaque and placed on permanent display in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
