City appoints interim fire chief

South Lake Tahoe City Manager Nancy Kerry announced the appointment of Bruce Martin as the city's interim fire chief Tuesday.

Martin takes the reigns of the fire department from Police Chief Brian Uhler, who has been serving as both the police and fire chief in the city since a 2011 reorganization.

Martin's career began in 1978, when he started as a volunteer firefighter in Fairfax, where he grew up. He has been employed by six fire departments in the Bay Area. He retired from the Fremont Fire Department in June.

Martin has been meeting with South Lake Tahoe firefighters and expects to officially be on board by the day after Christmas.
