Bill peacefully left his family and friends on December 3, 2012, just 10 days shy of his 95th birthday. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and through the 1940s and 1950s pursued a career in public service, beginning with the FBI and then as a highly decorated officer in the United States Marine Corps. Also during that time he received his masters degree from the University of Minnesota in International Law and later received his doctorate degree in International Relations from Columbia Pacific University.
He married his wife Theresa in 1953 and upon retiring from the military in 1977, they left their ranch on the Big Island in Hawaii and moved to Moraga, California. There, Bill taught at St. Mary's College and then continued his teaching career at Sierra Nevada College when he and Theresa moved to Incline Village in 1989.
He had many interests, including playing the piano, writing poetry and being involved with Native American and Indigenous People's projects.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa and their beloved dogs Buddy and Bunky. He is survived by his daughter and son-in law, Kristin and Colin Oishi, granddaughters Nicole Oishi and Larissa (Daniel) Emerson, and great granddaughters Chloe, Charlie and Piper. He is also survived by his nieces Mary (Gordon) McChesney and Margaret (Michael) Levy.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 17th at 4:00 pm at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church In Incline Village.
