Village Notes: What's happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Hooray! The snow is finally coming down. Thanks to Scott Comstock and the Hacienda for the Pray for Snow Party, it is working! Diamond Peak expects to open Dec. 20 so we need every inch of snow Mother Nature is willing to give to us now. Bring it on.

The Toys for Tots collection barrels have been picked up and taken to the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center as the volunteers must now begin the huge task of sorting and distributing the toys. Thanks to all who work so hard on this project year after year to make holiday memories for all in our community. If you do have items to drop off, they can still be delivered to the DW Center today and Friday.

Congratulations to Parasol's AmeriCorps volunteer Kelly Phillips. She just recently returned from helping the American Red Cross efforts in New Jersey and has been recognized by the Jersey Coast American Red Cross Chapter. To see the photos and read the article go to Parasol's Facebook page. Way to go Kelly.

The Rec. Center wants to thank everyone in the community for attending its anniversary celebration. The events were very well attended. Thank you!

The latest contest in the village is shopping at Raley's. The store is really starting to look awesome but finding things is a little challenging so shoppers need to help shoppers because looking for items each week is a little like a scavenger hunt. The contest winners must arrive at the checkout with all the items needed or wanted.

On Friday, Dec. 21, The Biltmore is hosting an End of the World Party. It is featuring a "last meal" along with a slot tournament and live music. Oh in case the world does not end, breakfast specials the next day too!

Best wishes to Bill Black as he recovers from his recent foot surgery. Hopefully he will be able to snowshoe again before winter is over.

Best deal or steal in the village this week is at Umpqua Bank. Bring in three canned meals - stews, ravioli, spaghetti, soup, etc. - for Project MANA and Umpqua will reward you with Umpqua Bank's gourmet Holiday Blend coffee. Thanks Cory and Umpqua for helping to replenish the supplies at Project MANA.

Only two birthdays to share this week: Kerry Pendergast on Dec. 18 and Holly O'Connor on Dec. 20. Happy Birthday!

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
