Donner State Park to host Holiday Open House

TRUCKEE, Calif.---The Sierra State Parks Foundation and California State Parks invite you to join them for an afternoon of fun-filled activities at the Donner Memorial State Park Museum on Saturday, Dec. 22, noon-5 p.m. This free, family friendly event is a great opportunity to visit the fascinating displays and learn something new in a holiday atmosphere.

Historian Gayle Green will lead a tour of the museum sharing unique insights on the ill-fated Donner Party at noon. At 1 p.m., children of all ages are invited to the indoor Junior Ranger program: Keeping our Donner Bears Wild. Everyone who completes the activity will take home a special prize. At 2 p.m., noted local artist Bill Vroom will provide a wood carving demonstration of local mountain birds. Starting at 3 p.m. all are invited to a Children's Reading Circle, where the staff will share favorite books while live music fills the air.

Meet the new director of the Sierra State Parks Foundation Heidi Doyle, who will give an update of the new Donner Visitor Center project at 4 p.m.

All attendees will receive a free gift from the Sierra State Parks Foundation as thanks for your continued support of California State Parks. In addition, all Foundation members will receive a 20 percent discount on visitor center merchandise throughout the day.
