Vikings make it hoops holiday

While most kids are relaxing on vacation right now, the Vikings basketball teams are wrapping up their tournament schedules on the road this weekend.

The boys are down in Southern California at San Pedro High School and have split their first two games.

South Tahoe (3-5) defeated South East (0-8) 54-37 on Wednesday before dropping its second game to Serra (8-3) 69-29 on Thursday.

The Vikings pulled ahead of South East in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 19-8.

Cale Backinger was named player of the game after he led the Vikings with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also turned in a 6-for-6 performance from the free-throw line.

Brandon Cramer wasn't far behind, contributing 11 points and four rebounds.

The boys final Saturday game will be decided after their Friday night game against San Pedro.

Meanwhile the girls are at El Dorado High School sharpening their skills in a non-conference tournament. The Vikings (1-6) dropped Thursday's nonconference game 52-29 to Bella Vista (8-4) on Thursday.

The girls' and boys' next home games will be Jan. 5 against Fernley High School.
