Village Notes: What's happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - We have certainly had some unusual things to remember 2012 by - right up to the last minute fiscal cliff. But the real horror in the village at the end of 2012 - rude visitors to our community. Yes, some visitors really need to look into reading Miss Manners website. Locals all love to have extra business in our community, but rude, obnoxious and downright nasty makes for a long holiday for locals. I suggest the local businesses all pass out lists of manners for the mountain to all visitors.

Parasol's AmeriCorps team is looking for a community project. The 17-team members want to work together to learn more about our community as they do a service project that will benefit our community. To learn more about the project and to fill out the application before the Jan. 7 deadline visit www.parasol.org and click on the AmeriCorps section or call Allison at 775-298-0186.

Lots of events will be happening this month, so no need to stay inside. Our main events will all happen at Diamond Peak. Here is a little sneak peak at what to expect in January. Plan to do the Learn to Ski and Ride Week the week of the 14th. This is an excellent way for children to learn and be able to participate in mountain activities. The annual Community Snowshoe hike is scheduled for Jan. 25 - this is another great outdoor adventure for the entire community. And Last Tracks begins on Feb. 2. This is really a popular event. For more information go to www.diamondpeak.com or call 775-832-1177.

Saturday, Jan. 12, is National Trails Day and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association is sponsoring a day of fun filled activities. For information visit www.tahoerimtrail.org or stop at the office located in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center.

Tahoe SAFE Alliance is again having a ski day at Sugar Bowl. The event is on Feb. 3 and you can get tickets on the website www.tahoesafealliance.org. Also don't forget the annual Father/Daughter Dance on Feb. 8 at the Tahoe Biltmore. This is a great event and you can also get tickets on the website for this event.

Time to wish my husband Gerry Happy Anniversary again. Happy Anniversary on Jan. 5.

Lots of birthdays to celebrate this week with: Brent Gouveia on Jan. 1; Alexander Faulkner and William Wilson on Jan. 3; Tim Kelly on Jan. 4; Angel Nicol and Charles Stinchfield on Jan. 5; Jeff Greenway on Jan. 8; Lori Parsons and Bryan Wallpe on Jan. 9 and Marie Bennett, Michelle Geary and Marcie Johnson on Jan. 10. Happy Birthday!

The best deal and steal this week is at the Hyatt. Pick up the new 2013 VIP locals card and receive a 20 percent discount at all of their restaurants plus the spa. Now that is a great deal for locals.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
