The Incline girls basketball team split its four games in the Monterey Bay Holiday Sweet 16 Tournament in Salinas (Calif.) over the holiday break.
The Highlanders (7-8) opened the California tournament with a 41-32 loss to Notre Dame (Salinas) on Dec. 26 and a 57-42 loss to Everett Alvarez (Salinas) on Dec. 27.
Incline bounced back to defeat Carmel (Carmel) 45-37 on Dec. 28 before ending the tournament with a 40-37 win over Gilroy (Gilroy) on Dec. 29.
Sophomore Molly Franklin had a monster game against Gilroy, as she led the Highlanders with 21 points, including five 3-pointers, eight rebounds and three steals.
The Highlanders got off to a slow start in the contest, trailing 15-9 after one quarter. But they rebounded to tie the score at 18-all by the half, then managed to hold off Gilroy in an evenly matched second half.
Kortney Solis added eight points to the win and Sarah Wright scored five. Kira Porter finished with a team-high five blocks and three assists.
Franklin and Kerrie Tonking each scored 17 points to lead Incline past Carmel. Porter grabbed 10 rebounds, while Solis had eight rebounds, and Torri Baker had points and six rebounds. Franklin added five steals, three blocks and three assists.
Incline led Everett Alvarez 13-10 after the first quarter but was outscored 22-2 in the second quarter as the Eagles took control.
Tonking scored a team-high 13 points to go along with her nine rebounds. Franklin scored eight points and had four steals, Baker had seven points, and Porter and Solis each had six points. Porter pulled down 13 rebounds and Tonking and Solis had nine apiece.
Solis posted a team-high nine points and nine rebounds against Notre Dame, and Wright scored eight points.
