Tahoe Forest Hospital announces first baby of 2013

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. - Tahoe Forest Hospital is pleased to announce the first baby of the new year was born Friday, Jan. 4 at 3:43 p.m.. This was the first year in many the hospital didn't have a baby on the first of the year according to Shawndee Carnell, unit clerk at Tahoe Forest Hospital's Women and Family Center in Truckee.

Baby boy Damian Guerrero weighed 5 pounds 8.9 ounces at birth and measured 18.5 inches. His parents are Angelica Guerrero and Gerardo Ruiz of Kings Beach. He also has a big sister, 5-year-old Jacqueline.

The new parents were pleasantly surprised to have the first baby of the new year, and were presented by the Women and Family Center with a gift basket of items donated by local merchants and residents.

"I feel excited to have the first baby of the new year," said mom Angelica. "I feel lucky and very happy." She also said it was a long labor and she's happy to have it over with, and she's looking forward to being able to be back home with her family and her daughter.

"Thank you to everyone at the hospital for taking such good care of me," said Angelica. She also wanted to express her heartfelt appreciation for the lovely gifts.

Tahoe Forest Hospital would like to recognize Gratitudes, who donated a rattle, bath salts, and a blanket, and assembled the beautiful basket; Mazie Carnell for her hand-quilted baby blanket; Sonja Bena of Images Salon for the gift certificate for a haircut and style; Mane Attraction, who donated Phyto hair products; Dorinda's Chocolates for the hand-dipped chocolates; Truckee Love, who donated an infant T-shirt; Wild Cherries Coffee House for the $20 gift card; Tahoe Forest Auxiliary for the stuffed animal; Tahoe Forest Women and Family Center who gave Starbucks gift cards, diapers, and spirits; and Deb Safford, RN who gave a knitted hat.
