Meet Your Merchant: Morning Glory decor offers mountain look at affordable price

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - Looking to spruce up your place this winter? Morning Glory home furnishings offers new and vintage pieces, with a mountain twist, for any room in your home.

Owner Marcy Schreiber bought the store in 2005 and relocated it to downtown Tahoe City. The shop, which has a variety of items from linens to jewelry, features knick-knacks that Schreiber found herself at flea markets or estate sales.

"It's about the find in the store," she said. "I have a lot of old and new (items)."

Walking through the store, customers will find anything from aprons and table cloths to bedding, backpacks, pillows and more. The store reflects Schreiber's style of mixing old and new, a look that she replicates when decorating homes.

Schreiber explained that she grew up "junking" with her mom - traveling to finding antiques to decorate their own home.

"We love to go junking," she explained. "Since I was little, my mom and I were rearranging furniture."

While the store front has various decorations, Schreiber also offers interior design, as well as setting up for events or weddings. She mixes ideas from the homeowner with her own style to create a unique look for each home she decorates. Schreiber added that recently she's been busy decorating Christmas trees for visitors or second homeowners in the area.

Along with offering unique looks for homes, Schreiber sells fabric and offers custom sewing.

While the store has hundreds of little and big items, Schreiber explained that she's constantly looking for new things. She travels to estate sales, flea markets and anywhere else she can find items she can sell in the store.

"I try to turn (the store) around a lot," Schreiber added.

Schreiber said that antiques are often her biggest seller in the store. She aims to have various price points for items in the store, along with having smaller items that visitors to the area can bring home.

Schreiber explained that much of her business comes from visitors to the area. She has countless Lake Tahoe related items, including jewelry and books. Schreiber carries some local artists for her jewelry as well.

Morning Glory is located in the heart of Tahoe City, complete with a deck on the back that overlooks Lake Tahoe. In the summer, Schreiber said customers will often sit on the deck, taking in the views while shopping. And this summer, she plans to offer beverages for customers to further enjoy their shopping experience.
