Letter to the Editor: Diamond Peak ski patrollers deserve a lot of praise

I am writing to you today because of the great ski patrol at Diamond Peak Ski Resort.

Two Fridays ago, my friend and I were skiing on a nice and sunny afternoon, when all of a sudden we were lost. I personally ski at Diamond Peak a lot, so I knew we were somewhere we shouldn't have been. Lost in the wilderness, we called our parents and searched around, looking for any kind of sign or run to see where we were.

When we hit a sign that read "Steep Hill, No Trespassing" we knew we were in deep trouble. I called back, notifying the ski patrol of our location. They responded by telling us we were out of bounds, and we needed to follow our tracks and start hiking upward.

Driven by our own will, we started slowly walking uphill. Finally, after an hour and a half of hiking, patrollers found us and got us out of our sticky situation quickly, in a friendly yet professional manner. They knew where we were, and we all traversed out fairly quickly.

Dennis and Pat were the two best patrollers I have ever met, and they saved my life. The patrollers were not mad at us, they simply used it as a learning experience to be more thoughtful about where you go. They also understood that it was an accident, for there were not any ropes where we went out of bounds. There were signs every hundred feet though, and they reminded us to look more carefully next time for signs notifying us of the boundaries.

This experience was made much better than it could've been just because of the great ski patrol that Diamond Peak has to offer. So next time, when you're skiing at Diamond Peak, thank the patrollers for always being there for you on the mountain. They have a tough job, and deserve praise and respect for all the good that they do.
