It is time to stop debating the Second Amendment and just figure out how to reduce the incidence of gun violence. A good start will be to re-fund the Centers for Disease Control which had begun to do serious research on gun violence as a public health problem. NRA-influenced congressmen pulled the funding a few years ago.
Gun violence is a public health problem and should be addressed thoughtfully. It is a multi-variate problem which will need a variety of approaches and neither assault weapon bans nor blanket resistance by the NRA is likely to get us there.
Time to apply some empirically based research and try out solutions rather than just blather on rhetorically.
