North Tahoe basketball | Tyler scores 30, Spencer 27 as boys roll

The North Tahoe boys and girls both defeated visiting Quincy in nonleague basketball games Tuesday, the girls by a score of 36-35 and the boys 72-50.

North Tahoe boys coach Frank Wright described his team's win as "interesting," as the Lakers jumped out to a 24-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and led by a similar margin at the half. But that all changed in the third quarter when Quincy cut the lead down to 10 points.

"It was our lack of defense and some quick 3s," Wright said, explaining how the visitors came back. "They played very well in the third quarter, until we finally got our act together."

The Lakers poured it on down the stretch of the fourth quarter, eventually extending their lead to the final margin of 22.

Junior point guard Alex Tyler led the way with 30 points, while senior forward Colin Spencer scored 27 and sophomore Mitchell Myers had 13 points. Sean McDermott grabbed seven rebounds and Spencer had six, while Noah McDermott did a commendable job handling the ball, Wright said. Ty Morrison scored 14 to lead Quincy.

The Lakers are now 6-7 overall.

The girls did not play their best game but still managed to pull off the win, said coach Rick Buhler.

"We had a woeful night shooting," he said. "But you've got to win the ugly ones, and we did."

Junior guard Angela Wood led the Lakers with 12 points, while senior Liz Buhler scored nine points. Sophomore center Sage Chador, playing in her first game back from an ankle injury, helped lift the Lakers to victory with five consecutive points in the fourth quarter.

North Tahoe is 6-5 overall.

UP NEXT: The Lakers host Truckee on Friday, girls at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30. They play at Whittell on Saturday and host South Tahoe on Tuesday.
