Sierra High wins annual Project MANA food challenge

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Truckee schools were competitors again this holiday season to find out which school could collect more canned goods for Project MANA's food bank. Last year's winner, Truckee Elementary, lost to Sierra High students and staff.

Schools involved included Donner Trail Elementary, Truckee Elementary, Tahoe Truckee High School , Sierra High School, Alder Creek Middle School, and Glenshire Elementary.

Sierra High School received the trophy that passes to the winner each year with their name engraved on it. The Project MANA Trophy began four years ago in November 2009. The Leadersip class always had a school food drive with poor results. Christine White, secratary at TTHS, thought of a "challenge" between Truckee school sites. The winning school would hold the trophy for the year with their name and date engraved on it. She purchased a large trophy and the competition began. The Leadership class at TTHS has agreed to pay for the ongoing engraving cost.
