TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. - Tahoe SAFE Alliance invites community members to participate in One Billion Rising on Feb. 3 at their annual Ski Day at Sugar Bowl. Show solidarity with One Billion Rising, the largest day of action to demonstrate the need to end violence against women and girls. Commence a "communal ski run" at 1 p.m. on Sugar Bowl's Mt. Judah. To participate, purchase an all-day lift ticket for $35 at www.tahoesafealliance.org for the Feb. 3 event. All Sugar Bowl lift ticket proceeds benefit Tahoe SAFE Alliance.-
One in three women will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls. Rise, stand, and take action for wounded women in the community and around the world.
Meet at 1 p.m. in front of the Jerome Hill Express Lift, located at Judah side of the mountain. Take the lift to the top of Pioneer Trail and enjoy a run together to symbolize North Lake Tahoe and Truckee is part of One Billion Rising. Participants are encouraged to sport red flare to create a "mountain of red." The event will be filmed and shared with millions of individuals and activists through www.onebillionrising.org and www.vday.org, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. The global One Billion Rising campaign is growing in the lead up to Feb. 14, with more than 13,000 organizations in 176 countries holding events.
Tahoe SAFE Alliance and Sugar Bowl have collaborated for the past nine years for the annual Ski Day at Sugar Bowl fundraiser. Sugar Bowl has generously donated 500 all-day lift tickets to support Tahoe SAFE Alliance in reducing the incidence and trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee communities.
Tickets can only be purchased in advance online at www.tahoesafealliance.org. Tickets will be on sale while supplies last or until Feb. 1, 2013.
