The South Tahoe boys and girls both picked up big wins Saturday in a cross-town game against Whittell.
A strong second half led the South Tahoe boys to a 56-29 win. The lady Vikings took control of the game early, and cruised to a 49-24 win.
The boys were evenly matched in the first half, swapping the lead several times throughout the opening minutes. Heading into halftime, South Tahoe held a 15-11 advantage.
But the Vikings exploded into the second half with four unanswered layups. Without benchdepth, the Warriors were running on empty, and the Vikings outscored Whittell 41-18 in the second half.
Cale Backinger led the South Tahoe boys with 14 points, four rebounds and a 6-of-8 performance from the line. Brandon Cramer had 10 points, and Kyante Wilson knocked in seven and grabbed five rebounds.
The lady Vikings steadily outscored the Warriors in all four quarters.
The Vikings spread the points around with Brooke King collecting eight and Bailey David, Hannah Neiger and Ally King posting eight each. Riley Chapman and Neiger dominated the boards. Chapman had eight and Neiger had seven.
The Warriors' offense was Amanda Harris. She scored 22 of Whittell's 24 points.
