INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Do you ever find yourself lying in bed at night, dreaming about escaping to your favorite spa to book their five-hour Stillwater Retreat package? Well lucky for you, you don't even need to leave your house to have a spa experience; you have a spa right in your kitchen!
Open your cabinets and refrigerator and you'll quickly notice that you have all the ingredients needed to whip up your very own spa treatments. Follow along and I'll help you with the steps on how to apply these treatments.
An excellent treatment, especially this time of year, is a full body scrub. One of the biggest benefits of a body scrub is how easily it removes dead skin cells that make the skin appear dull and lackluster. Afterward, your skin will look instantly more youthful and rejuvenated. One of my favorite recipes is a Sugar Scrub.
Step one - Mix the following ingredients in a small mixing bowl: 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of honey, 2 tablespoons of unused coffee grounds.
Step two - In the shower, wash your entire body with your favorite body wash first and rinse. Although it feels nice this time of year, don't take scalding hot showers. Hot water strips the oil right out of your skin.
Step three - Apply a small amount of scrub to a washcloth or your hand and scrub gently in a circular motion while slowly moving down the body from shoulders to feet. You don't need to apply too much pressure since the scrub particles provide the abrasive action.
Step four - Rinse off and be sure to remove the scrub completely.
Step five - End shower and apply a body moisturizer. The coconut oil you used for the scrub is also great as a moisturizer. Especially if your skin is extremely dry. I recommend applying to damp skin so the moisturizer can absorb effectively.
Is your face feeling a bit dehydrated especially during this winter season? An avocado face mask is a hydration miracle and great for sensitive skin. All you need for this simple mask is one large ripe avocado mashed into paste. Apply to your face and leave on for 15 minutes. Here are some tips and directions for applying your homemade facial mask:
Step one - Begin with cleansed skin. For best results, steam your face and neck. A warm/hot washcloth applied to your face will open your pores and prepare the skin for the mask.
Step two - To apply mask, use your fingertips and gently massage in a circular motion, avoiding eyes and lips. Remember to apply evenly.
Step three - Once applied, relax! Lie down and close your eyes, listen to soothing music. Feel free to place cold sliced cucumbers over your eyelids as well for an even more relaxing at home experience. Or maybe read your latest InStyle ... anything to relax you, just don't fall asleep!
Step four - Rinse using warm water and a washcloth followed by cool water to close your pours. Apply a serum, eye cream and moisturizer that includes sunscreen.
Experiencing breakouts or blemishes? Use green tea as one of the magical weapons to battle against blackheads. In order to make sure you restore the spotless health of your complexion, mix 1 tbs of ground green tea with a few drops of water. Create a fine paste you can apply on the delicate areas. Use the mixture as a scrub and start massaging it into the pores. Keep on face for 3-5 minutes, and then rinse with warm water. You can also apply at night time and use as a spot treatment that is kept on overnight.
