The North Tahoe boys led by Patrick McElravey swept the top three spots at the Tahoe Donner Freestyle this past Friday as Katrin Larusson and Hannah Halvorsen again finished 1-2 in the varsity girls division.
Evan Vomund led the Incline contingent with a sixth-place finish in the varsity boys division. He posted a time of 15:11.7 over the approximately 5-kilometer course, which sent athletes through the stadium in the middle of the race, allowing spectators to cheer as they passed.
Vomund was trailed by Incline teammate Brandon Herhusky, who finished 12th in 16:06.7. Incline's Owen Graffis placed third in the open division (JV) with a time of 19:05.8.
McElravey claimed victory for the second straight week in 13:55.8, while the Lakers' Shane Christian (14:01.0) and Dylan Syben (14:32.6) rounded out the top three.
Larusson has won all three CNISSF races of the season for her Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA) girls. On Friday she recorded a winning time of 15:32.7. Halvorsen, a Truckee freshman, finished second in 16:01.9, while sophomore Truckee teammate Gabrielle Rinne was third in 16:26.8.
Incline's Meghan Kelley finished fifth in the open division with a time of 20:41.9, and teammate Stephanie Homola was eighth in 22:11.6.
A total of 143 cross-country skiers and snowshoers braved chilly conditions to compete in the sixth annual Tahoe Rim Tour from Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area to Northstar on Sunday.
Ross McMahan of Incline Village defended his snowshoe division title, completing the point-to-point race in a time of 1:42:31. Dolores Bergmann won the women's snowshoe division and was second overall with a time of 1:51:22, while Sarah McMahan was third overall in 2:08:17.
Far West Nordic Farm Team racers took the classic division honors, as Noah Brautigan of Truckee won with a time of 1:37:04, Reno's Wyatt Fereday was second in 1:37:09 and Tahoe City's Gus Johnson third in 1:41:28. Vomund finished fifth overall in 1:44:54, and fellow Incline Village resident Peter Hanson was sixth in 1:46:32.
Holly Whitney of Truckee was first woman and 11th overall with a time of 1:54:51, Ellie Phillips, from Australia, was second in 1:57:50 and Julie Young of Auburn was third in 1:59:15.
In the freestyle division, Dan Warren of Truckee took top honors with a time of 1:36:02, while Truckee's Beth Thomas was the first woman and second overall in 1:37:02.
Alex Ferneyhough of Truckee and Mark Johnson of Mountain View finished second and third, respectively, for the men in 1:37:28 and 1:37:43. Genevieve Evans of Carnelian Bay and Mischel Twining of Tahoe Vista were second and third in the women's division in 1:40:07 and 1:44:07, respectively.
