North Tahoe basketball | Boys use big second half to dispatch Incline

For the second time this season the North Tahoe boys got the best of their lakeside rival from Incline, this time by a final score of 43-36 in a back-and-forth barn burner Saturday on Dollar Hill.

The scrappy Incline squad led for much of the first half, carrying a 7-5 lead into the second quarter and a 19-12 lead into the half after a slow offensive start by the Lakers.

North Tahoe (10-12 overall, 3-5 league) rebounded with a strong third quarter to narrow the lead to one point, 31-30, entering the fourth. The Mount Rose League foes then traded leads throughout the final quarter before the Lakers created some space in the final minutes.

Incline (11-12, 3-5) fell into foul trouble near the end, which allowed North Tahoe to pack the ball inside and use its size to its advantage, said coach Frank Wright.

"It was a fantastic win and our kids worked extremely hard," Wright said, complimenting the play of Gerardo Perez and Sean McDermott, who finished with seven and six assists, respectively. "Both did an amazing job handling the ball."

Senior forward Colin Spencer led the Lakers with 16 points, while Alex Tyler scored 10 points and Mitchell Myers had eight.

The Laker girls, meanwhile, fell 56-27 to the red-hot Highlanders, who've now won four straight games and six of their last seven.

Behind the accurate outside shooting of junior Kortney Solis, who hit six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points, Incline jumped out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter and led 29-13 at the half.

Molly Franklin scored 14 points and Kerrie Tonking had 10.

North Tahoe is now 8-12 overall and 2-6 in league. Incline is 13-12 overall and 5-3 in league.

UP NEXT: The Lakers end the regular season at Truckee on Friday, girls at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30.
