With one week left in regular season play, the South Tahoe basketball teams hit an Incline roadblock.
The South Tahoe boys struggled to find their shot Friday, resulting in a 36-33 loss in Incline. The girls couldn't overcome Incline's strong first half and came away with a 52-40 loss.
Both losses do not hurt the Vikings' playoff chances, but they do threaten their chance of hosting a playoff game. The top eight teams will make playoffs, which are already a lock for South Tahoe, and the top four teams will host.
The boys got plenty of looks Friday, but couldn't convert them into points. The Vikings went 0-for-19 from 3-point range and 14-for-28 from 2-point range.
Incline capitalized on South Tahoe's slow first quarter, jumping out to a 13-4 lead. By halftime, the Highlanders held a 22-14 advantage.
South Tahoe regained some momentum after halftime. They outscored Incline 19-14 in the second half, but again poor shooting killed them. They shot 54 percent from the line, and missed the front end of two 1-1 attempts in the last 45 seconds.
"Hopefully, we got the poor shooting out of our system," boys coach Chris Proctor said.
Incline managed the win without its top two scorer Orin Porter and Matt Hanna, both of whom are out for the season.
The lady Vikings had more luck with their shots falling Friday, but then, so did the Highlanders.
South Tahoe's Hannah Neiger led the Vikings with 19 points and eight rebounds. Hannah Neiger also went 7-of-7 from the line. Mel Grady put up 10 points for the Vikings, including two 3-pointers.
Incline's Molly Franklin matched Neiger's 19 points, and Highlander freshman Kira Porter collected 23 rebounds.
"Incline played a very good game and beat us," said Mike Neiger, the South Tahoe girls coach. "We cut the lead to five a couple times in the second half, but couldn't get over the hump."
Before Tuesday's Truckee game, the girls were 10-11 overall, 6-3 in the Mount Rose League and 4-4 in crossover play. The boys were 11-10 overall, 8-4 in Mount Rose League play and 5-3 in crossover play. Check the Tahoe Daily Tribune website, or Friday's paper for Truckee game results.
UP NEXT: South Tahoe will play two more regular season games before heading into playoffs. The Vikings host Sparks on Friday. The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. South Tahoe rounds out regular season at Whittell High School on Saturday with a South Shore rematch.
