My Echo Story: Live Violence Free

Live Violence Free offers services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse to break the cycle of violence. These services range from education and prevention to crisis intervention and shelter. LVF's Prevention Program includes classroom presentations for elementary, middle and high school, with topics including Stranger Danger and Sexual Harassment. Outreach presentations extend beyond the classroom to health and child care providers, law enforcement and social clubs. Live Violence Free also offers a Home Visiting Program and a Parenting Violence Free class to educate parents about healthy discipline and nurturing parenting practices.

Live Violence Free's intervention services aim to match the needs of the client in the most appropriate and effective way possible. When clients walk through the organization's doors, they come from different situations and different stages of change, meaning they may be simply looking for more information, seeking a supportive person to talk to, or needing immediate intervention and help from a dangerous situation. Live Violence Free offers drop-in peer counseling, advocacy and accompaniment, legal advice and assistance, emergency motel nights, and a 90-day shelter program with life skills, therapy, and support group requirements. One-on-one counseling is available for any victims and family members dealing with situations of violence or abuse. In addition, LVF's Parent to Parent and Batterer's Intervention programs facilitate education and healing for families who have dealt with these issues.

One former client said, "Live Violence Free is like a second mother to me." After suffering from a physically, emotionally, sexually, and financially abusive relationship, LVF helped the client take one step at a time toward independence, including learning English, how to drive, reclaiming her credit and getting a divorce. The client now describes her life as very happy; continuing to heal through therapy and building upon a newfound confidence. "There is only one word that can say it; thank you. You saved my life."
