Nevada governor signs Internet gaming bill

CARSON CITY, Nev. - A bill that will fully legalize interactive gaming in Nevada was approved by both houses of the Legislature and signed by Gov. Brian Sandoval last Thursday

"This is an historic day for the Great State of Nevada," he said in a statement. "Today I signed into law the frame work that will usher in the next frontier of gaming in Nevada. This bill is critical to our state's economy, and ensures that we will continue to be the gold standard for gaming regulation.

Bipartisan support in both houses of the Nevada Legislature smoothed the approval of the bill, according to various media reports.

"I want to thank Majority Leader William Horne and Gov. Sandoval for pushing this critical legislation," said Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick in a statement. "By passing this bill in an expedited manner, we continue to send a signal to the nation and the world that Nevada is the capital of gaming.

"This legislation will combine our stellar regulatory infrastructure with larger markets that are seeking to legally participate in online gaming"

Kirkpatrick said the bipartisan support for the bill showed lawmakers can work together.

"I believe AB 114 blazes the trail for our state and allows Nevada to continue to lead the way in the gaming industry," said Assemblyman Wesley Duncan, R-Las Vegas.

Assemblyman Cresent Hardy, R-Boulder City, echoed his colleagues' support, saying in a statement: "The passage of AB 114 allows Nevada the opportunity to broaden its gaming market by entering into interstate compacts while bringing new high-tech industry to the state."

Minority Floor Leader Pat Hickey said the bill will put Nevada ahead of online gaming rules.

"AB 114 takes Nevada to the forefront of online gaming regulation, setting precedent for the industry and creating jobs for Nevadans," he said.
