Rotary Club of Truckee announces Resource Fair for high school juniors

TAHOE/TRCKEE, Calif. - For the fourth year in a row, businesses and schools in cooperation with service clubs have partnered with the Rotary Club of Truckee to answer an unmet need in the community: Connecting high school students with a broad range of local and regional resources for life after high school.

On March 22, the North Tahoe Conference Center at Kings Beach will host 340 high school juniors for a day long Resource Fair. Students will again hear Isabel Rodriguez Wilson speak and visit 10 stations with valuable information students need as they enter their senior year.

Topics will focus on popular themes such as job trends, vocational opportunities, financial aid and career assessment. Sierra College and Sierra Nevada College representatives will be present to answer questions about career training and educational degree options.

Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Superintendent Chief Learning Officer Dr. Robert Leri praised this collaborative community effort on behalf of the students: "TTUSD and neighboring schools are fortunate to have a cadre of community organizations and volunteers coordinate a program to further prepare our students for college and careers. I was fortunate to participate in the event last year and was impressed with the variety and quality of information and activities provided to our scholars. Thank you to all who make this possible."

Truckee, Tahoe City, Sunshine, and Incline Village Rotary groups as well as Soroptimist, Excellence in Education, East-West Partners, and Optimist clubs are sponsoring the event on Friday, March 22 at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. The clubs have provided event funds and the school district will provide bus transportation for students.

The Rotary Club of Truckee founded this event in 2010 with the help of TTUSD and local businesses. The Resource Fair committee is headed by Greg McDougall, Donna Landeros, and Pat Gibbons-Johnson. To donate time or financial assistance please contact any of the local service organizations for Resource Fair committee members.
