Scholarships available for female pilots

The Reno Area Chapter of The Ninety-Nines, International Organization of Women Pilots, has two scholarships available for female pilots.

One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a woman who already has a Private Pilot Certificate and wishes to continue training towards an advanced rating or certificate. One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a woman who is in the process of learning to fly. She must have soloed prior to making application. Scholarships may be used for power aircraft, glider or balloon training, a press release stated.

The Ninety-Nines were formed in 1929 with the mission of promoting world fellowship through flight, providing networking and scholarship opportunities for women and aviation education in the community, along with preserving the unique history of women in aviation.

Applicants must live within a 75 nautical mile radius of the Reno-Tahoe International airport to the north, west or south. The boundary extends to the Nevada border to the east. For more information and application packets, contact Kathy Walton at or 775-356-2928. Mention Scholarships in the subject area.

The deadline for applications is March 4. Interviews will be held on March 14 in Reno. Awards will be announced in April.
