TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. - The Truckee-Donner Recreation & Parks Department is pleased to announce a production of the beloved Broadway musical, "Annie," Truckee's first show in years that is open to all ages. Director/Choreographer Courtney Simson and Musical Director Susan Horst are looking for talented men, women, teens, and kids third grade and up from the Truckee and Tahoe areas to join the cast. Enroll in the production, and you will be automatically placed in the "ensemble" (chorus) and eligible to audition for lead roles. Lead parts include Annie (should look 11 or less), Oliver Warbucks, Rooster Hannigan, and President Roosevelt (adult or teen males), Miss Hannigan, Grace Farrell, and Lily St. Regis (adult or teen females), and six lead orphans who should appear to be between 7 and 13 years of age. There will also be lots of small parts filled from the ensemble. Many of these roles have singing or acting solo lines. Additionally, there will be two pre-show numbers, one from "Newsies" for the boys, and one from "Annie Warbucks" for girls, in order to showcase the special talents of children not cast in lead parts.Tryouts will be held on March 14 at the Community Arts Center in Downtown Truckee on Church Street as follows: 3:45-5:45 p.m., third through eighth grades; 5:45-7:45 p.m. teens and adults. Tryouts will consist of reading lines, movement, and singing a verse or two of songs from the show. An accompanist will be provided. People who prefer to bring their own sheet music or a CD of a karaoke-style instrumental version of a song may sing one minute of that number. Callbacks will be held Friday, March 15, 5:45-7:45 p.m. at the TDRPD's Community Recreation Center.Performances will be June 8 and 9 on the Community Arts Center stage. Rehearsals will be Thursdays and Fridays for leads, and Fridays only for ensemble cast members until the last two weeks of the rehearsal period. Those cast in lead roles must commit to both Thursday and Friday rehearsals.Fees for the show are $150, with a separate production fee of $50. The latter covers royalties, costume rentals, sets, and light and sound equipment rentals. There is a family members discount. The first family member pays full fees. Additional family members get 50 percent off their base fee. Everyone needs to pay the $50 production fee. Scholarships are available for youths third grade through high school that reduce the base fee by 50 percent.
