Tahoe area golf courses open up

Following a lackluster winter for snowfall, Lake Tahoe area golf courses are off to an early start this season.

Several courses are already open, with many more expected to tee it up in May.

At the South Shore Bijou Golf Course, Tahoe Paradise Golf Course and Lake Tahoe Golf Course opened in mid-April, closing briefly on account of snow. Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course will hold its annual Local’s Day, with discounted green fees, May 6. The entry deadline for Lake Tahoe area residents for the Local’s Day drawing is Friday, May 2.

At Lake Tahoe’s North Shore, Old Brockway Golf Course in Kings Beach opened in mid-March. The Tahoe City Golf Course is also taking tee times, with the restaurant scheduled to open May 1. The Resort at Squaw Creek plans on opening its golf course May 22.

Incline Village’s Championship Course and Mountain Course are set to open May 9. It will be the earliest opening for the Mountain Course and the first time that both courses have opened on the same day, according to a press release from Incline Village General Improvement District.

“We had such a mild winter that it allowed the ground to thaw earlier than normal,” said Mountain Course Head PGA Pro Robyn Crabill, in the release. “These warm ground temperatures played a huge role in getting the courses open by May 9.”

The driving range at the Championship Course is open seven days a week and the putting green is scheduled to open May 1.

In Truckee, Ponderosa Golf Course is open, with the Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing expected to open May 9. Coyote Moon Golf Course will open May 15, with both Northstar California’s golf course and the Tahoe Donner Golf Course scheduled for a May 16 opening. Tahoe Donner’s driving range opened for the season April 19.
