A weekend of concerts will launch the new hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe at the South Shore.

Following a nearly seven-month long, $60 million renovation of the former Horizon Casino Resort, the new South Shore casino will open to the public at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28. The hotel and casino will offer 539 rooms, more than 500 slot machines and a wide variety of table games across its more than 25,000-square-feet of casino space.

Reno funk and soul act Mojo Green kicks off the grand opening party with a free show at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 in Vinyl, the casino’s concert venue.

“Vinyl provides an intimate setting for singer/songwriters, classic rock n’ roll entertainment and comedians,” according to a press release from the casino. “Programming will include local favorites and tribute bands, open mic nights, comedy routines and late night dancing, as well as national touring acts.”

Officials associated with the casino will hold a press conference that is open to the public at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 28 and will smash an ice guitar to commemorate the casino’s opening.

“We have spent the summer and fall rehearsing for our big day, and we could not be more excited to share our new resort casino with everyone,” said Don Marrandino, chief operations officer for the property in the release. “The grand opening is all about celebrating, thanking the South Lake Tahoe community, our many friends and soon-to-be guests for their support. We’d like to see a great turnout on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. when we gather local dignitaries to smash an ice guitar, rather than the traditional ribbon cutting, and officially open the property to the public.”

The grand opening celebration continues with a shows by Uncle Kracker on Thursday, Jan. 29; Skid Row on Friday, Jan. 30 and Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Tickets to Uncle Kracker, who rose to fame as part of Kid Rock’s Twisted Brown Trucker Band and notched solo hits including “Follow Me,” start at $61 plus fees.

Rock act Skid Row had string of gold and multi-platinum singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Tickets to the group’s performance at the Hard Rock are $50 plus fees.

Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts will perform a set originals, including many of the hits from Weiland’s storied career, including songs by Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, according to the release. Tickets to that show start at $50 plus fees.

Each of the shows start at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at http://www.hardrockcasinolaketahoe.com or by calling 844-578-7625.
