SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — A woman is recovering in a hospital after her 23-year-old son allegedly stabbed her in the face and other areas of her body multiple times Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. during an altercation during which Deniz Lucas allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times with a kitchen knife at the family’s home in the area of Christie Drive and Wedeln Court, South Lake Tahoe Police Department Sgt. Shannon Norrgard said Friday. Lucas’ father reportedly broke up the altercation and subdued him until police arrived. It was unclear what caused the altercation.

The woman was taken to a hospital by emergency personnel and had to be brought into surgery. Norrgard said Friday that she was stable. It didn’t appear that the father suffered any injuries.

Police arrested Lucas at the home without further incident. He was booked at the South Lake Tahoe Jail and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
