Two dogs perish in Thursday house fire

Tribune Staff Report

A house fire early Thursday morning in the 1000 block of Stockton Avenue resulted in three people displaced and the death of two dogs, according to South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

Sallie Ross-Filgo, the fire department’s spokesperson, said the fire occurred around 1:32 a.m. on Thursday and fire crews responded immediately.

Crews put out the fire at around 1:47 a.m. and remained on scene until shortly after 4 a.m. Lake Valley Fire, Tahoe-Douglas Fire and CAL FIRE responded to the blaze as well. Nine units and 16 people handled the house fire.

Ross-Filgo said while one person was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, no one suffered any injuries.

“The building’s interior was severely damaged,” Ross-Filgo said. A fire captain’s initial estimate placed damages at $50,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the South Lake Tahoe Police and Fire departments.
