Resident rattled by snake

This 3- to 4-foot long rattlesnake was found under a porch on Treehaven Drive in South Lake Tahoe by Chad Davis late Tuesday morning. El Dorado County Animal Services in South Lake Tahoe sent an Animal Services officer who safely captured the snake and relocated it to an unpopulated area of the county. There was no known contact with the snake and no injuries were reported. Rattlesnakes are commonly seen on the West Slope of El Dorado County. They are a fairly uncommon in the South Lake Tahoe area. According to Lt. Robert Gerat, Supervising Animal Control Officer for El Dorado County Animal Services in South Lake Tahoe, he cannot recall his office receiving any rattlesnake-related calls for the Tahoe area in the more than 20 years he has worked for the agency. Gerat suggests if someone encounters a rattlesnake to back away slowly and try not to interact with the snake. Most snakes will retreat if given enough room.
