POLICE CLEAR MAN SUSPECTED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

South Lake Tahoe Police Department cleared a man suspected in a Aug. 28 sexual assault case on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The police department initially released surveillance footage of the suspect captured at the “Y” area on Sept. 24.

The victim reported a sexual assault. The subject and victim had met only hours prior, so the victim could not positively identify the subject.

An attorney contacted the police department later that day stating that the footage of the man was willing to cooperate in the investigation.

According to the police, the subject saw the photos in the media and came in voluntarily.

As a result of that interview and a subsequent follow-up, the allegations made by the victim were unfounded.

No criminal charges will be filed in this case. The victim has been referred to support services.

POPE-BALDWIN BIKE PATH ACCESS

Construction work will cause delays or temporary closures of portions of the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path over the next few weeks. The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is re-routing portions of the bike path near Camp Richardson Resort to provide a better, safer experience for riders.

The Forest Service does not expect closures to last more than half a day and will provide alternate routes when possible. The Pope-Baldwin Bike Path links Forest Service recreation facilities from Pope Beach to Baldwin Beach on Highway 89 North.
