A summer of car shows at Heavenly Village revs up with the Lake Tahoe Summer Kickoff Car Show this weekend.

The show takes place Friday through Monday, May 27-30, and includes numerous classic cars, the awarding of 25 trophies, a poker walk and sidewalk sales.

The International Good Samaritans Safe Ride Club organizes the show, as well as several more throughout the spring, summer and fall. The nonprofit promotes the use of designated drivers and seat belts as the best defense against the dangers of drunken driving.

“Each year IGS volunteers attend over 30 major car and motorcycle shows in Nevada and California and pass out free designated driver pins and buttons and ‘Buckle up that seat belt’ stickers,” according to its website. “IGS also asks people to please not drink and drive.”

Cool Car Cruizen’ Fridays began last Friday, May 20, at Heavenly Village and will continue from 5-8 p.m. every Friday through Oct. 20. The Bike Bash and Rod Run will take place June 17-19; Rolling Chrome/Tahoe Thunder runs July 1-4, Hot Tahoe Cruizen’ Week Lake Tahoe will be held Aug. 1-7; Heavenly Village Days on Labor Day takes place from Sept. 2-5; Cool September Days Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show runs Sept. 16-18 and the South Tahoe Classic and Giveaway Show will be held from Oct. 7-9.

Entrance into all shows for vehicle owners is $40. Spectating is free.

Heavenly Village is located at 1001 Heavenly Village Way in South Lake Tahoe.
