Letter: Two men, two approaches

For quite some time, I have been interested in the way two local figures address various issues. The first gentleman, David Jinkens, is a former city manager and has kept himself involved in local affairs since that time. From time to time, Mr. Jinkens writes opinion pieces for the Tribune and other local publications. In so doing Mr. Jinkens is invariably polite and positive, although if there are problems with what he is addressing, he will point them out in a respectful and constructive manner. I always enjoy reading his articles and letters.

The other gentleman is a former city councilman and also a frequent contributor to our local publications. The contrast between the two men could not be greater. This second writer specializes in vitriolic diatribes. His letters are full of negativity and criticism. Ironically, I find myself sometimes agreeing with his position on issues, but he loses me with his approach.

If these two men were to run for or be appointed to office again, I know which one I would support — and which one I wouldn’t.
