CATT announces membership orientation

The Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe (CATT) announces a Membership Orientation for prospective members, new members, and existing CATT members. This orientation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 4 p.m. at the CATT Office located at 12313 Soaring Way, Ste.1G in Truckee. Light appetizers will be served.

The Membership Orientation is open to all design and building professionals who want to maximize their promotional efforts while also being kept up to date on the latest local building codes, fees, remodel trends, and more. Learn about CATT benefits and services and how to get the most out of a CATT membership. Current CATT members are also encouraged to attend. Meet CATT Board Members and Committee Chairs, and find out how the membership dollars are spent.

Silicon Mountain Meeting with Bryan

Allegretto, Partner and Forecaster for OpenSnow.com

The Silicon Mountain Group, a network of technology professionals who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee area, announces Bryan Allegretto, Partner and Forecaster for OpenSnow.com, will speak about Snow Sport Specific Weather Forecasting.

Bryan will give an overview of the niche and the evolution of ski resort weather forecasting, specifically the start of Tahoe Weather Discussion and how it became OpenSnow.com. If you’re interested in snow forecasts, Internet marketing, and business forecasting based on the weather, join the presentation. The meeting will be on Monday, April 8, 6-8 p.m. at Pizza on the Hill in Tahoe Donner at 11509 Northwoods Blvd., Truckee. A $5 fee includes pizza and soft drinks. Before and after the discussion, there will be time for networking with other technology people who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee region.

Tahoe Donner to host SuperTour event

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center has been chosen to be a host venue for the United States Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA) SuperTour Finals, a Nordic Olympic qualifying cross country race series taking place April 4-11.

The United States Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA) SuperTour Finals and U.S. Distance Nationals are the premier cross country ski races in the United States. The event is held annually each spring and features more than 200 of the most talented cross country skiers in the world.

Among the featured elite athletes scheduled to make an appearance is Kikkan Randall of the U.S. Ski Team. Randall placed third in the overall FIS Cross Country World Cup rankings this season, the first American woman in history ever to do so. Jessie Diggins, also of the U.S. Ski Team, is scheduled to compete. Diggins and Randall took first in the team sprint at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships last month, the first World Championship gold medal in U.S. Nordic skiing history. Liz Stephen, another U.S. Ski Team member, will also race in the SuperTour Finals. Stephen is currently ranked 20th in the cross country overall and 15th in distance.

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center will host race events for the Tahoe SuperTour Finals, along with Auburn Ski Club and Sugar Bowl. In addition, Tahoe Donner will present an array of community events.

Other events coming up at Tahoe Donner include inspirational and sports-related seminars, live music, barbecues and specialized clinics.

Racing begins on April 4. Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center will host the women’s Classic 15- and 30-kilometer on Wednesday, April 10 and the men’s Classic 20- and 50-kilometer on Thursday, April 11.

New mechanics lien law alert: As of July 1, 2012, the most sweeping changes to California’s mechanics lien laws in more than 50 years went into effect. Changes include new lien release forms (upon payment), new design professional lien, new preliminary 20-day notice, other revised notices and methods of service. Get the new forms, as well as the completely revised mechanics lien form and method of service required as of Jan. 1, 2011. And: Construction contracts, SB 800 construction defect warranty, prompt payment codes, how to deal with nit-picking owners, etc. A timely seminar for contractors, subs, suppliers and owners.
