Man killed following fall from Tahoe rock

A Minden man was killed Friday evening after falling from the top of Cave Rock and landing on the rocks below.

Leroy Rupert, 61, died of multiple blunt-force trauma sustained in the fall from the geological formation on Lake Tahoe’s East Shore, according to a statement from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Pat Brooks.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s office and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a call for assistance at Cave Rock about 6 p.m. Friday, Brooks said.

A friend who was on the top of the rock with Rupert called 911 for assistance to get Rupert down, Brooks said. Rupert had been described as shaky, Brooks said.

When the friend turned back around, Rupert was gone from the location he was last seen.

The sheriff’s office believes the fall was accidental, Brooks said in an email. Toxicology reports are pending.
