We won third place in the Odyssey of the Mind, an international creative problem-solving competition! We couldn’t have done it without help from many local supporters.
We carried vehicles to the start lines. Henry, from The Attic, gave us our frictionless axles from old CD players. Old printer motors, scavenged by Jeannie at South Tahoe Refuse, powered the cars. On came the laptop and projector — thank you Glen Smith, Dr. Rolfe and NTCD — which displayed our backdrop, an animated Odyssey of the Mind mascot.
The first vehicle had to pass through a narrow tunnel seven feet away. Ice skaters whirled around on top of the car, a shiny, spinning, ice-rink-like platform.
The vehicle failed in trials many times, but people provided wonderful places to practice— Shannon at the Ice Rink, Mindy from the Presbyterian
Church, the City of South Lake Tahoeand we practiced until ... eureka! We did it! Thank you.
