Tioga Pass set to open Saturday

Tioga Pass, which provides a variety of recreational opportunities and access to Yosemite National Park from the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, is tentatively scheduled to open Saturday, according to an update by the National Park Service.

Clearing snow from the road usually starts about April 15 each year and takes between one and two months depending on the remaining snowpack, according to the park service..The road opened May 7 last year following a low-snow winter. It opened on June 18 in 2011, when snowpack was nearly twice normal averages.

The pass is about 2.5 hours south of the Lake Tahoe Basin off of U.S. Highway 395.
