Fall Classic caps the competitive paddling season

Competitive paddling at Tahoe is set for one final hurrah in 2013, with a shore-to-shore race going down this weekend.

The O’Neill Fall Classic is a 22-mile race from Camp Richardson Marina at the South Shore to Kings Beach at the North Shore.

The Sunday race is the finale of the Tahoe SUP Series and will determine the overall prize purse winner of the Series Elite Class, according to the event’s website, www.tahoecup.org.

“A series purse of $20,000 will be up for grabs for the “Series Elite Class,” according to the website. “In addition to the ‘Series Elite Class’ there will also be an ‘Elite Class’ for men’s and women’s registration for the Tahoe Fall Classic.”

The Tahoe SUP series included a Donner Lake race in May and the Jam from the Dam in Tahoe City in July.

“Since its inception in 2009, the mission of the Tahoe Cup is to offer both the recreational paddler and the race enthusiast an opportunity and venue to participate in paddleboarding and standup paddleboarding events and activities in the Truckee-Tahoe area,” according to the website. “The Tahoe Cup SUP/Paddleboard Race Series is a joint effort of paddleboarders, standup paddleboarders, sponsors and exhibitors who promote the sport and introduce products and services that enhance the experience.”
