SnowGlobe preview: Kap Slap

Kap Slap, aka Jared Lucas, will make his music festival debut when he performs at the SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe later this month. Lucas started as a mashup artist, but has made the leap into original production. Lucas expects to include his debut single in his set at the festival. He caught up with Lake Tahoe Action this week.

Q — How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it?

A — I started what I am doing so that I could expose the masses to good music — basically taking the dance music culture and EDM, everything that comes with EDM, and exposing it to a larger audience that wouldn’t normally here it. So, a lot of my mashups have been like EDM and pop together. I don’t want to nail down my specific style too early, but whatever it is is going to be musical. I don’t like succumbing to different fads and this and that.

Q — What do you shoot for with your live shows? A — I keep it extremely high energy. I really try to get people from the very beginning ‘til the end really invested in what they’re listening to, some sing-along type stuff, really just keep ‘em dancing. And, of course, there’s going to be the lulls to give you some breaks, but overall I want to bring the crowd into thinking they know what’s going to happen and just absolutely blowing their mind and throwing something different in there, like making bootlegs of my bootlegs, and playing stuff people haven’t heard before. And just really, really keeping people on their toes. I never want my sets to be boring.

Q — How’d you get your stage name?

A — Ha. I was in a fraternity when I was back in college. My big brother in my fraternity, he kind of came up with this, it’s called a “family line” drink, which is basically you take a funnel of beer, like a beer bong, you start to do it and then as you start to do it somebody pours in a shot of 151 into the top of the funnel. So you take a gulp, and you’re like OK, and then the next couple of gulps are just like a slap in the face.
