Artists’ group created

Tahoe Daily Tribune

A new organization for artists and their ilk is forming at the South Shore. The Beauxarts Black Beret Bohemians will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. each Monday at Strange Brew coffee house, 2660 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The group is for anyone, whether they are a pro, a novice or a student and all ages are welcome.

“You know if there is an artist inside you crying to get free,” said Lori Sugai, founder of the group. “I’ve been wanting to start a visual arts group at Lake Tahoe ever since I moved here from Tokyo seven years ago. This group is a continuation of one I started in conjunction with my gallery at Fort Worth, Texas. This one fulfills a long-awaited dream for me and answers the question ‘where is the local art community’?”

Sugai, who is the current “Grand Beret,” will present an introductory talk. She will discuss Burning Man, public art exhibits and the “beauxarsty farsty ball” as well as how people can earn their own black beret and artistic license.

“This group is not for the ‘faint of art’,” Sugai said.
