Just as it happened in high school, Jessica Bettencourt played her final collegiate volleyball match in the postseason.
Bettencourt concluded her senior season at Seattle Pacific University with a three-game NCAA Division II Western Regional defeat at once-beaten Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday night.
The former South Tahoe High player contributed two kills, two digs and a block in the Falcons’ 25-13, 25-19, 25-16 defeat to top-seeded Cal State San Bernardino, which improved to 30-1 on the season.
Bettencourt supplied one kill and one dig in the first game, which saw the home team jump out to a 9-0 lead behind the hot serving of Sara Hoffman.
Last year’s national runner-up pulled away in the second game after the teams fought to a 15-15 tie.
In the final game, the Falcons got as close as 16-12 before the Coyotes put away the match.
