Children’s books topic of writers workshop

Top editors, writing instructors and professional authors and illustrators will lead a one-day conference April 30 at North Lake Tahoe for aspiring and professional children’s book writers and illustrators. The Summit Symposium, sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Region of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, will feature speaker presentations as well as small-group, hands-on workshops.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach. Cost of the event is $105 for SCBWI members and $115 for non-members. A written critique of up to 10 pages of work is an additional $30. Workshops will cover how to revise writing for publication, avoid common mistakes of beginners, prepare and market work for publication, and visualize and present artwork for picture book illustration.

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators is an international organization offering networking opportunities and support to people who write, illustrate or share an interest in children’s literature. The local chapter is always open to new members – from beginners to seasoned professionals -and it regularly sponsors conferences to help writers and illustrators break into publication.
