CHP and AARP offer drive safety classes

A free California Highway Patrol driver safety class will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 in the South Tahoe High School Student Union, 1735 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Start Smart is aimed at helping newly licensed and future licensed teenage drivers become aware of the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of being a licensed California driver. The program was created in an effort to preemptively reduce the incidence of teen injuries and deaths resulting from motor vehicle collisions.
All classes are free of charge and last approximately two (2) hours. To reserve a space contact the California Highway Patrol at (530) 577-1001.
An AARP driver safety class for senior drivers sponsored by the Kahle Community Center will be take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10. Preregistration is required. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Cost cover workbook and material costs. Irvine Phillips will be the instructor. The class runs at the community center, 236 Kingsbury Grade Road, Stateline. Bring a pen or pencil to class. Call the center at 775-586-7271 to sign up.
